Crystal IS is actively seeking to hire an Application Development Engineer to join the Business Development team and engage with customers to develop next-generation applications which integrate UVC LED's into their products - understanding customer's engineering requirements and developing design specifications and drawings which optimize dynamic constraints such as optical, and fluid flow parameters within confined dimensions. The successful candidate will be a resourceful, self-motivated, hands-on, problem-solver with technical aptitude and capacity to work toward customer milestones in a timely fashion. The work will involve interfacing across functions internally. This position will report to Director of Application Engineering.


•·          Develop reference designs for customer evaluation of UVC LED components, and write supporting technical documents which include application notes, presentations and papers.

•·          Design and assemble in-house test stations which mimic customer end-use testing for sterilization systems (air, water, surfaces)

•·          Perform optical (e.g. ray tracing) and fluid (e.g. CFD) models and provide design suggestions to customers based on results

•·          Develop conceptual drawings for integration of LEDs into products using CAD drawing software; Generate mechanical drawings for existing parts and new product integration schemes.

•·          Review customer schematics, layouts and data and provide feedback as required to improve the overall customer design which may require on-site support.

•·          Troubleshoot and solve technical challenges at the customer site and/or in our own lab.

Work closely with sales, marketing and product development teams to ensure a successful product launch and timely design wins.



•·          Minimum Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical, MS a plus

•·          Minimum 5 years hands on experience with electrical assembly included

•·          Controls Engineer basic experience necessary

•·          Familiar with engineering drawing software (CAD, e.g. Solidworks), fluid flow (CFD) a strong preference

•·          Optical modeling (e.g. Zemax ray-tracing software) is desired

•·          Self-motivated, active listener, solutions oriented, good communication skills

•·          Highly organized and is able to handle multiple projects at once.

•·          Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams

•·          Experience in start-up environment a plus

Skilled with hand solder assembly of surface mount components
