Description:Crystal IS Inc. has developed a semiconductor substrate (Aluminum Nitride) and epitaxial growth process that can be used to create high performance Ultraviolet Light Emitting Diodes (UV-LEDs). Our unique technology allows us to manufacture UV-LEDs with unsurpassed performance within the optimum wavelength range for germicidal disinfection. Commercially viable UV-LEDs will open new markets in water disinfection and bring a safe, environmentally friendly source of water to more people. Crystal IS is actively seeking to hire an Application Development Engineer to join the Business Development team and engage with customers to develop next-generation applications which integrate UVC LED’s into their products - understanding customer’s engineering requirements and developing design specifications which optimize dynamic constraints such as thermal, optical, and fluid flow parameters within confined dimensions. The successful candidate will be a resourceful, self-motivated, hands-on, problem-solver with technical aptitude and capacity to work toward customer milestones in a timely fashion. The work will involve interfacing across functions internally. This position will report to Director of Application Engineering. Duties:• Design and build prototype purification/sterilization systems (water, air, liquids) • Design and assemble test stations which mimic customer end-use testing • Perform conceptual designs of electrical circuitry for LEDs and work with fabricator for manufacturing and testing • Perform optical, thermal, and some fluid modeling for proposed LED systems • Develop conceptual drawings for the integration of LEDs into products using CAD drawing software; Generate mechanical drawing for existing parts and new product integration schemes • Attend meeting with customers to understand the requirements of the project and provide the appropriate technical and application support to ensure all objectives are met. • Assist in developing technical documents • Participate in regular project status meetings ensuring that the sales team and Program manager is well informed of project status. • Working alongside our sales team, assist in the preparation and delivery of detailed proposal / quotation packages.
Qualifications:Minimum Bachelor’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, MS a plus • Minimum 5 years hands on experience with electrical assembly included • Controls Engineer basic experience necessary • Familiar with engineering drawing software (CAD, e.g. Solidworks) • Demonstrated knowledge with dynamic models. Background thermal extraction, thermal management simulation, fluid flow (CFD) a strong preference • Optical modeling (e.g. Zemax ray-tracing software) is desired • Self-motivated, active listener, solutions oriented, good communication skills • Experience in start-up environment a plus
